What's more aero than aero?
OVERFAST has decided that bike aerodynamics need dialing up to 11, and set to work creating what they believe is the ultimate crankset for cheating the wind.
Having successfully created a set of mindbendingly light carbon thru axles, they turned their attention to a carbon crankset that had one main focus, reducing drag.
While riders commonly think about deep section wheels or new helmets to make themselves more slippery, OVERFAST is concerned with what riders don't think about. They are looking for that edge that only comes from a special obsession with details.
Being in a position of turbulent air on the bike, most overlook the marginal gains to be had but OVERFAST does not.
They seek out the bleeding edge of what's possible, always convinced that there is more to be had.
Marginal Gains Matter
By reshaping the crank arms with a narrower profile and smoothing out transitions, engineers have been able to cut down the resistance created at the heart of the drivetrain.
In wind tunnel testing, an aero crankset has shown savings of between 3 to 6 watts at 45 km/h, depending on rider position and setup.
That might sound modest, but across a 40 km time trial those watts translate into seconds gained without any additional effort from the rider. Over the course of a long road race, it can mean conserving enough energy to make a decisive move when it matters most.
For the weight weenies
The advantage is even greater when paired with other aero components. Because the crankset sits low and forward in the frame, small reductions in turbulence there improve the airflow around the chainrings, bottom bracket, and even the rider’s legs. This synergy can make the whole aero package more effective.
